isaac and i were in the pool for a good two hours straight today. he is really getting the hang of swimming, and floating. today was his best day ever. he learned how to let himself float and kick and paddle at the same time! i was so proud of him, and he was so very proud of himself! he did not want to get out of the pool at all, so we gave nolan his nap in the lawn chair, and stayed in the poolpracticing all afternoon and evening, until he was so blue and shivery that i had to make him get out. i took a video of it but so far i have been unable to get it to work. one side of his body is weaker so he kinda rolls in a circle as he swims. its absolutley adorable, inspiring and beautiful to watch him when he learns something new.

kendall and daddy took isaac out on the jet-ski. he went last year and definately remembered it. he shouted "WAHOO!" the whole time, and did not want to get off when it was time to dock the jet-ski for the day.

a day at the lake

sunday we had an awesome afternoon at the lake. 27 people got baptized, praise God for that!it is so moving and beautiful to see people committed to following Jesus. then we stayed and played in the lake with the boys for a couple of hours. they had such a fun time. nolan is super cautious and fearful of the water, and isaac would walk off the end of the dock with no fear if we were not watching him.

love my daddy too! my dad is a great man. he taught me so much about what it means to be a father and a husband, he gave me a high standard to set when it came to choosing a great husband of my own, he gave me a love of the outdoors,(although he never convinced me to kill anything) and he loves me, with all of my flaws and faults. kinda like my heavenly father, in an earthly, human kind of way!

saturday morning we woke up to a very interesting situation. there was something in the chimney. our stove pipe is 6" diameter and there was definitely some kind of critter trying to claw its way out. except it kept sliding down, bringing creosote raining down woth it, which in turn caused nolan (who has awesome hearing) to keep cocking his head to one side and ask "wassat mama?"
after deciding that starting a fire was not the most humane way to go we finally settled on a dog cage with a blanket over it, me with a camera and tom disassembling the chimney. piece by piece. finally the mystery solved, it was a bird! of course the bird slipped easily out of the dog cage and them we had a comical time catching it as it tried in vain to fly out all of our very closed windows. after knocking itself silly four or five times we finally caught it and released the poor captive into freedom! not exactly the way i had hoped to spend my saturday but still lots of laughs! great job to my very brave husband who of course had no way of knowing that the "critter" we spent all morning hunting was a little birdie.

nolan finally decided that he likes his spiderman hat. he dosn't know who spiderman is though so he calls it his fireman hat. he was very proud to wear it while riding around the house on the tricycle.

we went to visit toms parents on fathers day. we all had a good time and the boys especially liked playing in the pool, they had so much fun! nolan also really liked the strawberry patch. he won't eat them at home, apparently he prefers them fresh:) he ran off to pick some, soaking wet out of the pool. he called out over his shoulder "i'll be wight back mama, im going to pick strawberries wight now mama."

when isaac was a baby he had a great doctor. he went through all of our early struggles with isaac's health, with initial discovery and learning about his disabilities and what that would mean for isaac's future and ours. we spent a lot of time in his office that first year and a half, isaac went in for weight checks every week, sometimes twice a week, and for various other health checks also. he went through the loss of elijah thomas with us and even attended his funeral which meant so much to us, and was something none of isaac's other doctors did. he was and is very special to our family. i just received a comment on my blog from dr. dave. it has been over three years since we moved away from dr. dave, but he still checks up on us from time to time, and comments on how well isaac is doing. so in response to your message we most definately do not mind if you check in on us! we would love to keep in contact. if you read this and would not mind we would love to have an email address to contact you as well. may you and your family be Blessed by God as you have Blessed ours-love, the rundels

we got the boys a "big boy pool" a few weeks ago. isaac loved it right away, he loves it so much that he will get himself all ready to go in, swim diaper, swimsuit, lifejacket and everything all by himself which is a lot of work for him! it took nolan a bit longer but a few days ago he finally told me he wanted to wear his "wifejacket" and go in the "big pool" we had so much fun and he got to show off for his daddy when he got home from work. he was very proud of himself and told daddy all about it. then he got daddy to "swim wif me daddy"

ive been reading this amazing book, coming home to your true self by albert haase. it is a truly amazing work. its my favorite kind of writing, blatant sometimes brutal honesty with ourselves and God is the major theme, living fully in the presence of God. my meditation from his writing has been on living in the moment, leaving the anxiety and worry and truly embracing each moment as a gift from God to be enjoyed and fully lived. these are my thoughts, practicing living in the presence today. the depths of the soul, can never be fully explored, that is the beauty of serving God, being changed by Him and finding who we really are in Him.

i've been teaching nolan about sports, can you believe it? i don't know the first thing but he loves it. so far basketball is his favorite but i think baseball is a close second. isaac is starting to like soccer a bit but i don't have a photo of that yet. the camera was lost but now found!

my boys (tom too, he will always be my boy) got me a digital photo frame for mothers day. i really like it but my favorite part of mothers day was the wrapping paper. the boys painted the paper for me and i love it so much im going to matte and frame it! i love being a mama, and hearing those two sweet voices telling me "happy mama's day!"was a great gift too.

we had a really big couple of weeks. wonderful and stressful and amazing. we celebrated and mourned elijah thomas' 4th birthday, we had a big party for nolans birthday and we have been just plain busy. having nolan and elijah's birthdays both in the same week is a blessing and a curse. i have this heaviness that sets in about the time that the calender says "April" and then it just settles on my spirit until after elijahs birthday then i begin to wake up from the fogginess and start getting excited for nolans birthday. it is a transition i don't love but i always learn from it. my precious baby boy is still teaching me even after four years and i hope forever. i miss him so much, i miss all of the things we don't get to experience with him here. i wonder what his laugh will sound like, i imagine what his personality would be, would he be more quiet like isaac, or loud, like nolan? how would i ever fit three car seats in the back seat of my car? would they all play well together? all these questions. then you throw in easter in the same week with all of this and my emotions get rubbed raw to the point of bleeding. partly im glad that resurrection sunday falls in the same week,it helps to be reminded of the glorious grace and hope that we have in our Creator/Father/Savior. one day all this pain and sorrow of the world will be gone, no more sadness, no more tears, only overflowing love, and peace. thank you Jesus for hope! take care of my baby, he was yours first and always. let that be the truth for us all.

so here we are again, it seems birthdays are the only time i make time to post anything. i guess its better than nothing. my nolan levi is two years old! we had a sand box birthday party- we had everyone bring a bag of sand and a sandbox toy. it was great fun, too bad the weather was crummy, they only got to play outside for a little bit before the rain started and it was really cold.

tom asked isaac what was his favorite part of his birthday party, and he said "i was eating cake!" and indeed he was eating cake. he had two pieces before we had to cut him off! i had a fun making him his cool cake and he definitely had fun eating it.

isaac had a birthday on friday. he is five years old. his life has been so full, that it seems like we have had him forever, and yet i feel like he was just born. my baby boy isn't a baby anymore.

we all had a great day doing all of the things that isaac loves to do. one of the things that he wanted to do was go to mcdonalds playplace. we had a lot of fun playing on the slides and tunnels, and having a special treat of cheeseburgers, french fries and even ice cream.

on sunday we had his birthday party. he was so excited. it was wonderful to see him anticipate something. he has never done that before with anything, not even christmas. all weekend he kept asking, "mama, can you drive me to my birthday party please" and "mama, im ready for my birthday party now, please" he had such fun at his party, he felt so special and he is already loving to read all of his new stories. (instead of toys we had a "book party")

in the fall i took the boys out to play in the back yard and try to get photos of them together, this was one of my favorites, they were sitting next to the chicken coop watching daddy blow bubbles. after about two hours by myself with them i had been unable to get the two of them in the same picture much less looking in the same direction. then daddy got home from work and we enlisted his help for entertainment. this was as good as it got

a few days before christmas i finally gave in and gave nolan a haircut. my little hippie baby could hardly see, he was constantly pushing his hair out of his eyes. i was so nervous, i thought that i was going to throw up. i was so scared that his hair would lose the curl after i cut it but so far so good, he has perfect little ringlets still. he sat very well (with a movie on the laptop) and except for repeatedly trying to grab the scissors while shouting "sharp!" the event went rather well in my opinion.

so......its been a while since my last post. we don't have internet at our house so my opportunities are few and far between. i checked and sent email for the first time in about six months a couple of weeks ago and that was only because an old friend left me a comment on toms blog otherwise i think it would have been a year on that too. i feel inspired lately to make the time to do such things as keep up with folks so here i am putting up a post.

the last year and a half have been very interesting. we moved into our new house which we love. we have learned a lot about being home owners and our house seems always to have a project going. even with projects though our home has been a great place of rest, for us and for others. we try to have our home filled with family and/or friends as often as possible.

the boys are doing wonderful. they are both growing and learning so much. isaac turns five this week. my baby boy is going to be five! nolan is only a few months away from turning two! they are both getting so big. they bring such joy to my heart, i thank God for them in my life.

we had a big rainstorm a couple of weeks ago. isaac and i were getting home from having lunch with his daddy at the office when he discovered the huge mud puddle in our driveway. before i could get the words no, no out of my mouth he ran straight into the middle of it! since he was already soaking wet by this time i did what any loving, responsible mom should do and told him, stay right there while i go get the camera! he ran around splashing and saying "im in the water!"

so we are trying to buy this house. we love it and can see ourselves living there for a very long time. it would be a great place for our boys to grow up. it has this wonderful old style red barn, we can't wait to hang a tire swing in it for the boys (and us) to play on! we went over earlier this week with an inspector that we knjow from church. he was kind enough to take time from his schedule to take a look at our place. while we were there i was exploring the house and yard with isaac and nolan. as i was taking a water break isaac took off across the yard. as a mom i am trying to learn how to let him be a boy and not smother him, so i let him go by himself. when i finally couldn't take it anymore i asked him where he was going, and as i took this photo he turned around and yelled "im goin ta check out the barn" it was a great moment and a fun thing to remember as i captured it on film and in my memory. he is getting so big, and i am so proud of him!

i never gave either of my boys pacifiers, i thought it would be too hard to break them of it. haha on me i guess that plan backfired cause now nolan suck his thumb! hopefully he will grow out of it naturally. i should have known that it could happen since we did see him doing it in the womb on an ultrasound. oh well, its not so bad, he keeps himself asleep with it so i suppose its worth it.

nolan is already three months! the time is truly flying by. he looks the same, a little taller, a little fatter but mostly the same. he is really animated now though. he talks and coos and smiles all the time. we are having such fun with him. isaac is still loving him, sometimes though when he's had enough of sharing his mama he will tell me to "put nolan down now"

they had a great inflatable for the little kids at day camp. they had lots of fun with it but kept knocking their heads together. isaac didn't want to go in until the other kids were all gone for the day. im kinda glad about that because i know he would have gotten his head knocked too, plus he and i had a really fun time just the two of us.

last week was day camp at church. isaac was old enough to go for the first time. he did really well and had fun for the most part. they had a water day on wednesday. the kids had a blast playing on the mini water slide and in a crazy sprinkler. isaac loved the sprinkler, he had so much fun running through it. it was great to see him with all of the other three and four year olds playing and having a good time. he did really well at lunch time of all things. he sat really well and ate great. he loved sitting and watching the other kids during lunch and then running around playing in the gym with basketballs.

isaac and samantha got to go for a ride in the tractor. they both looked terrified but didn't want to get out. we let them go around the yard a few times then had pity on them and let them get out.

we spent a day at the zoo last week. as zoos go it was just ok. the highlight was when isaac got to feed the giraffes. he loved it. as you can see he grabbed on to the giraffes tongue once. those things have huge tongues. the next best part was the monkey exibit. isaac thought they were great and wanted to give them a hug.

after i picked up isaac from his grandparents house it was another hour and a half in the car to get back home in time to meet the group as they rode in to the church. as you can see they were both really excited.

isaac stayed with his grandma and grandpa for a few days while we were on the bike trip. he had so much fun. we missed him way more than he missed us. he got to do all sorts of fun things, he swam in the pool, jumped on the trampoline, went to the park and to mcdonalds to meet his grandpa for dinner between his two jobs, one night he even got to take a bath outside inhis kiddie pool! every time we talked to him he was having a great time, and so were his grandparents, by the time i came to pick him up everyone was exhausted. they all had a good visit and it worked out great for isaac not having to move around with us on the bike trip, changing his routine every day. he really needs a routine. so thanks a bunch mom and dad!

the boys and i went to stay with my parents for a few days. we had a great time. it was really relaxing even though we were busy playing the whole time. isaac had so much fun. he got to swim in the little pool that his papa bought for him, he drove around in the woody van, and i think the high light for him may have been helping his papa water the garden every day. he sure kept his nana busy too, they played in the pool, built with lego's, ran around doing everything and when samantha came over to visit they had races in the empty lot next door. i think the high light for me was getting to spend some quality time with my mom and dad. and watching isaac and samantha eat the darkest chocolate pudding i have ever seen.

just like most kids his age isaac loves to swim! he got his grandma to take him in for his first swim of the summer on fathers day. he had a great time and looked like such a big boy in his life jacket. he swam until his lips were blue and he was shivering so much that he was stuttering his words. even then when you asked him if he was ready to get out he said a very adament "no" while shaking his head and shivering. nolan wasn't left out of the fun either, he got to dip his feet in with his daddy and his grandpa.

Nolan must really love Isaac, because he saves all of his best smiles for him. their evening routine of cuddles and kisses before bed seems to be the best time to capture them on film. isaac really loves nolan too, he has been saying "thank you Jesus for nolan" every night when we pray, it is so sweet to hear the prayers of a child. its hard to get through prayers with out getting all teary eyed.

today was a great day. it started off great because today was the first sunday that nolan and i have been able to go to church, and we made it on time with all four of us. that in itself was a miracle. then isaac went to the "big boy class" for the first time! he got to hear a bible story and color a picture, he did great! then this afternoon tom gave nolan his very first bottle! they did good, nolan wasn't too sure what to do with the bottle, but he managed to get a couple of ounces down. then this evening we rented a movie to watch as a family and we got ice cream from our local ice cream shop, it was really good. we will definitely go back. often. the final "first" of our day was when isaac was giving nolan his goodnight kiss nolan smiled for the first time and we were able to catch it on film. what a fabulous day!

isaac is so sweet. every night when we put him to bed he wants to give nolan a kiss good night. i bring nolan in and he lays down on isaac's pillow for a hug and a kiss before they go to bed. these are the sweetest moments to remember!

i can hardly believe that nolan is a month old already! it seems that he has only just arrived, even though i can barely remember when he wasn't a part of our family. i got this photo idea from a friend of mine. now i just have to remember to do it every month! he is so big already. he is so beautiful. thanks mom and dad for over night shipping the camera in time for his one month photo shoot!

this is chelsey and lacie. they are students in our ministry. they are two great young women, they came over to help me when i was on bed rest and also came over to help me get things ready for nolans arrival. this day they came to see nolan , and isaac too of course. they took isaac outside to swing and made sure he felt special too. thanks ladies, we love you!

i forgot my camera at my parents house on sunday! i simply can't go with out it so my dad is going to overnight it to me. until then i thought i would take some time and post some of the pictures i already have. this one is a family photo taken by me. our camera dosn't have a timer setting so we have to hold your arm out as far as you can and hope everyone is in the picture.

these photo's are too cute not to post. when you have a new baby they give you all sorts of free samples, these samples generally come in paper tubes which you tear open. well someone at our house (me) left the open tube of diaper cream in isaacs reach and this was the outcome. he had a great time and his daddy called him braveheart for the rest of the afternoon.

Nolan visits the doctor

We took nolan in today for his first check up with our pediatrician. actually it is the second time he got to see her since she does rounds at the hospital, she came in to see him while we were still there. Everything went great! He is perfect and sweet, oh and medically he checked out great too. He has gained 11 oz since we brought him home and grown a whole inch! Most relieving of all was the fact that his chromosome test came back already and so far as they can tell his chromosomes are all in order, no deletions, or duplications. we were prepared for it to go either way. after having a child as wonderful and amazing as isaac we know that no matter what we can handle it and be happy with our family however God chooses to create it. it is however fabulous news, to know that we may not have to face as many challenges this time around. or at least not the same challenges :)
after the appointment we took the boys ( i love saying that) up to church to visit with the staff who have not seen nolan yet. after they were done oohing and ahhing we took isaac outside to swing on the big boy swings and nolan got to experience the out of doors for the first time. it was a great day for us all, but a tiring first outing. the boys are both down for a snooze and as soon as i finish typing this i too will head off to dreamland for a short nap.

Nolan Levi Arrives

as most of you probably know by now our little one has finally arrived! Nolan Levi was born on Friday at 4:28pm he weighed 7lbs 9oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. we started our day with a 7:30 am call from my doctor saying that he had reviewed the ultrasound we had on thursday and he wanted to deliver the baby now because my amniotic fluid was increasing rapidly (he didn't have to tell me, believe me i knew) i had already been awake when he phoned, call it mothers intuition if you will, but i had a feeling he would be calling and setting something up. i woke tom up, asked him if he wanted to go have a baby today and that is how our day began. when we got to the hospital they "fast tracked" us and we were in a room, pumping me full of iv fluid prepping me for surgery all in a remarkably fast pace for a hospital.
